Nowadays,
most women know that breastfeeding is best for their baby, but whilst
some find it easy from the start, others find that, like any skill, it
has to be learnt and they may need practice to succeed. Remember, your
midwife, health visitor and doctor are there to answer your questions
and help you get your baby's breastfeeding off to a good start.
- If
possible, get your partner, your mother or a friend to help you with
shopping and housework in the first few weeks whilst you get your
breastfeeding routine established.
- When you are feeding your baby, don't answer the telephone or the front door - this will disturb your baby's feeding pattern.
- Keep a glass of water near you - many women get very thirsty whilst they are breastfeeding.
- Eat
a sensible, healthy diet with limited amounts of alcohol or caffeine.
Avoid smoking and drugs. If in doubt, ask your doctor.
