When you are about to become a parent for the first time, the bewildering array of brands and products make decision taking a difficult process. In this section we try to suggest the minimum combination of AVENT products, which may be helpful to purchase before your baby is born. Please click on each product for further information. Remember, the AVENT range allows you to choose whether to breastfeed, bottlefeed or combine the two. Our sets provide economical product combinations as well as wonderful gifts. Pregnancy First of all - congratulations! Support all those wonderful pregnancy hormones and treat yourself to AVENT's Future Mother skincare. These delightfully indulgent creams and oils will nourish and encourage your skin to achieve maximum elasticity, helping to prevent stretch marks, while their especially formulated aromas energise or calm. AVENT's Babycare range was carefully developed for the newest baby and if you buy them now they will be on hand for her appearance. As your pregnancy advances you may experience morning sickness and you may find that sleep becomes more elusive. We made Sleep-Easy Essence - a gentle blend of essential oils - to promote restful sleep and help relieve morning sickness. Our AVENT bags will stylishly transport all those many baby necessities, which include a thoughtful laundry bag for soiled nappies, pockets for your mobile phone and other personal items and insulation to AVENT bottles of pre-boiled water warm or breast/formula milk cool for several hours. Perhaps you are eager to breastfeed. During your pre-natal examinations your midwife will examine your breasts to determine - amongst other things - whether your nipples are flat or inverted. Approximately 10% of women have inverted nipples, which means that your baby may find it difficult to latch on to your breasts. AVENT were concerned about this some years ago and our simple solution is the Niplette which gently encourages the nipple to come out. Once the nipple is out your baby will be able to latch on normally.
Birth and breastfeeding After your baby is born and over a period of a few days, your breastmilk will flow into your breasts. Sometimes this can be uncomfortable while your body learns to regulate the amount of milk created during the first few weeks with your baby's appetite. AVENT recommend:
The ISIS can be used with our new VIA disposable system, or, if you prefer, feeding bottles. All AVENT products have been designed to be used with each. In either case, the expressed milk can be used immediately or frozen for later use. See the following section about bottle feeding to learn about our unique anti-colic teats designed to encourage your baby to suckle just as she does at your breast, avoiding any potential confusion between breast and bottle.
Bottle Feeding All AVENT's feeding systems, from the ISIS Breast Pump to our bottles, teats, cups and sterilisers, have been designed to work together and to make feeding time a pleasure for you and your baby. Feeding bottles, in two sizes - the small 125 ml size for water, juice or small feeds - large 250 ml size for feeding - with our CLEAR anti-colic teat. We suggest 2 or 3 of each bottle size and at least 4 newborn teats or slower flow teats. (Please refer to our section on teats for different flow rates and our variable flow teats.) Disposable containers - our brand new VIA system - can be used with the same teats, straight from the box or sterilised again - up to 3 times. We would suggest buying our VIA Feeding System with several boxes of extra containers. Breast milk/Babyfood Storage containers to hold expressed breast milk for later use or cooled boiled water. Later on, these can be used to store prepared babyfood. Both VIA disposables or our classic AVENT feeding bottles can be used to store milk. If you are not breastfeeding you will find our milk powder dispenser useful. It will carry 3 pre-measured quantities of milk powder ready to pour into cooled boiled water, which may be carried in our storage containers, feeding bottles or VIA disposables.
Sterilisation Hygiene is all-important and all of our feeding products can be put into a dishwasher or heated for thorough washing before sterilisation. Sterilisation couldn't be simpler with the AVENT Express range. Natural steam sterilisation is fast and effective and you can choose between electronic (iQ) electric (6 Bottle) or microwave (portable). The AVENT Express Bottle Warmer will warm expressed milk, milk formula, milk beverages and baby food in around 4 minutes. Later on, when your baby is taking solids, you may use the warmer to heat previously prepared food.
Rest & Relaxation You may find that soothers are a useful addition to calming your baby and AVENT have a range of soothers for new-born babies and older babies and glow in the dark soothers for the middle of the night. Buy a pack of 2 to try. Remember that our outstanding massage gel with calming lavender, part of AVENT's Babycare range, will also soothe a fretful baby and help her to sleep.
