The AVENT philosophy is to develop the highest quality, more natural products for parents who only want the best. Our products offer a unique technical edge and are clinically proven. They are designed to work in harmony with the body. This approach, which has established AVENT as the clear leader in baby feeding, was applied in the development of AVENT skincare.
Womens' skin is particularly sensitive to the physical and hormonal changes of pregnancy. As the skin stretches to accommodate the growing baby, red or purple stretch marks may appear on the tummy, hips, bottom, thighs, breasts and upper arms. The increased blood supply may give the skin a healthy 'glow' but can also make the skin feel itchy. Existing skin problems like spots and dry skin can get worse. Fluid retention especially in the legs and feet can lead to heaviness and discomfort.
Babies are prone to dry, easily irritated skin because the sebaceous glands which help lubricate the skin are under developed. Babies' immune systems are not sufficiently developed to fight off irritation and infection until around 6 months and are no match for the realities of modern living. A study undertaken by consultant dermatologists at Sheffield University* points to double glazing, carpets, central heating and more frequent baths and showers, particularly with unsuitable toiletries, as contributory factors to baby eczema now affecting one in five children.
